The GWA Foundation is a proud partner of the GRO1000 initiative to celebrate outdoor living by bringing community gardens and greenspaces to economically challenged communities. GRO1000’s chief sponsor is The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company with other partners — U.S. Conference of Mayors, Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanic Gardens, and KidsGardening.org. GRO1000 supports ScottsMiracle-Gro’s philanthropic strategy of “Give Back To Gro.”
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company established GRO1000 as a commitment to install 1,000 gardens and green spaces in the United States and select international sites by 2018. The last installation will be completed in 2018, which coincides with the 150th anniversary of the founding of the company. GRO1000 creates a partnership of national and local groups to collectively advocate for and demonstrate the benefits of gardening and green space development in local communities.
Gro1000 projects and grants focus on key areas such as:
- Outdoor play
- Urban revitalization
- Nature gardens
- Food deserts
- Green spaces
